Summary
The strong El Niño storm is definitely coming back and its on the way. U.S. Forecasters say that this extreme weather will bring the winter to be wetter and warmer than average. In addition, they predict this might be one of the strongest El Niño events that occurred in the 1982-83 and 1997-98 winter seasons. El Niño is the warm event and La Niña is the cold event. Currently, it is shown that there will be roughly 60% chance for warmer weather than average across the Northern U.S. and a 70% chance of a wetter weather across the South.
According to California's worst drought and snowpack across the states are at low levels and almost half of the states facing unusual drought while other states face some drought, this upcoming El Niño could actually change all of that. However, it was said that it would need more than one season of above-precipitation to cover all of the deficit years in water. Finally, one important note, is that strong heavy rainfalls that pour down in areas that lack the barrier to hold and sustain the amount of water to slow down runoffs will be an issue to be concerned with.
Reflection
I am glad to see that our horrible 4-year drought will be recovered by excessive rain even if it doesn't heal all the damaged and dried areas. I mean its at least something right? I would expect to see states in preparation for the storm else its going to be a matter of catastrophe. Knowing that there will be signs of rainfall, its time to hit the umbrella and stacks of coat in handy. I'm also on the lookout for potential environment issues from this event. It's really interesting to see what will happen and what this current El Niño will bring for us.
