Summary
Do you want to have amazing smooth curly hair? Want the wind to blow your hair flawless? Then join in on the fun with Brazilian Blowout! Brazilian Blowout offers a hair treatment that will leave you satisfied with the beauty you desire for months from unruly curls to dashing frizz-free. This advertisement sure does captures your attention doesn't it. However, there's been problems associated with this "Brazilian Blowout" that's available to all the women out there feeling the needs to look great as what the Vogue magazine calls "seriously liberating". Last year, a Portland, Oregon, hairstylist reported to the local Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) concerning shortness of breath, eye irritation, and nosebleeds. OSHA reviewed Brazilian Blowout's products and reveals the surprising evidence that it was contained with a toxic chemical known as carcinogen formaldehyde. How shocking it is to see that they show advertisements as formaldehyde-free and fooling us to use these products without even knowing whats in them that can harm us. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) set the limit to how much formaldehyde that is in beauty products to be safe if it has less than 0.2% of formaldehyde. According to statistics, it shown that Brazilian Blowout's products to contain levels of 6.3-10.6% of formaldehyde from the tests that OSHA has made. Even the salon workers were affected in the process of putting the treatments onto their patients as well. There were complaints of burning eyes and throats and loss of smell and shortness of breath. Furthermore, formaldehyde exposure has been linked to nose and throat cancer and leukemia. U.S congressional leaders and the FDA are working together to put a ban to these products by creating the Safe Cosmetics Act which can allow the FDA to set restrictions of harmful chemicals in beauty products.
Reflection
I just can't believe that many innocent people are having to deal with health problems after getting their hair done and as well as the workers who are doing it for them. It is unbelievable that the ones who are in higher authority are not doing their job and taking things more seriously. How hard can it be to test the products to ensure that everything is all good before they start selling it to the public. I think its insane that we put our budget and our life on the line for the things we love to have. This really goes way back to the issue when Rachel Carson was encountering because if one person hasn't spoken up about the problems that was going on then how would the future turn out. I believe that the chemicals they are putting into their products shouldn't ever be used and should be removed and this goes for any other toxins as well. If you're going to make people happy, you better make it right. Everyone should live safely and happily.
